Default Windshield replacements and rearview mirror?

Who has replaced their windshield lately? The OEM glass was PPG. The first time I replaced it, the mirror mount was pulled from the old glass and added to the new. The last time replaced the windshield, the installer used a PGW (Made in China). The Rear view mirror mount was already mounted on the glass. My issue is the mount is not wedged "\|" like the OEM mount, it was flat "||". This caused the OEM mirror to sit just enough closer to the trim, the OEM cover no longer fit (without modification).

So who had had a replacement lately? Who did you use and was the mirror mount included or pulled from the old, glued to the new?

My car came with a replaced windshield with a flat mirror mount and I wasn't able to very far out of the rear view mirror with the top up due to the angle. I ended up getting a Zoom Monaco mirror to help add some visibility, I think the Zoom mirror sits lower which helps more than the convex glass.

i got mine replaced just this month. my insurance is with nationwide.

initially they could only get my aftermarket with FYG but i kept pushing and calling to see if i could get OEM. eventually i did. took me 2 weeks of calling and calling to get it done. then they set me up with safelite and safelite kept asking me if i got approval for OEM glass. i told them my insurance shoulda reached out to you about that. after a week they call me to let me know they have my OEM glass shiping to their warehouse. overall, a busy process but rather painless. they couldnt get OEM molding but atleast the aftermarket one isnt bad. it sits slightly closer than OEM because its still new and not flat yet.

EDIT: mirror mount was included since it was OEM. just slipped off the old one and put it onto the new windshield. i did have to buy new 3m for my dashcam though since the old one got shredded during removal

here are some pics. hope that helps! gl!

@Swang
So Satellite wanted to install aftermarket glass using an after market molding. You pushed for OEM glass and SafeLite came through. The OEM glass came with the mirror mount or it was pulled from the old and installed on the new? Can you PM me what the bill was from SafeLite on the OEM glass? I got a quote from them as well. It was the highest of the quote I received. I assumed aftermarket glass.

Got a picture of the aftermarket molding after it was installed?

the OEM glass came with the mirror mount on it. what you see in that pic with the glass is exactly how it came out. its that little silver piece. i didnt get a bill from safelite since my insurance covered it completely. my bill was $0.00 lol

i can get a close up picture once the car is back from the body shop. getting some paint done but heres one that i found in my library
you can kinda see the aftermarket molding isnt as dark as OEM and hard to tell from this pic but you could see the lines from OEM moulding where the dirt originally laid. I took some paint polish and it cleaned up nicely though. id imagine if you removed the tape it would be even easier to clean up.

12 years ago I had my windshield replaced and also had the same issue with my mirror. Mine is PGW and the mirror now sits way high.

I hate it. Might buy one from Honda and have it replaced.

If you have to go aftermarket on the glass, just ensure the installer removes the mount from the OEM glass and reinstalls it. It doesn't take but a few minutes, but you'll need to tell them to do it.
