Default windshield tape

Whats the real deal with taking off the windshield tape. Is it used for anything like blocking the sun or something?

It's cosmetic. Many people think a painted windshield frame clashes with the black top (when the top's up of course). I disagree.

The windshield tape is cosmetic. It was to be removed if you added the, then to be introduced, hard top option. Unfortunately the tape took a hard set and so Honda never "officially" recommended the removal when the optional hard top was added (in Japan there was a lot of paint peeling when the tape was removed). Removing the tape makes the hard top more "integral" cosmetically. This is the official story by folks close to the plant. The tape comes up easy if the car is a few months old, but can be a bitch after a year of hot and cold.

There is no tape on the back of the hard top. What do you mean?

Just an observation: If you look carefully you will find pitting around the entire windshield area, others have said they believe this is due to the way wind flows off the nose and directly against the windshield. In my opinion if you remove the tape you will then start to have pitting on the paint of the windshield frame. I prefer to leave the tape and let it absorb the abuse.

Of course its your car and sometimes getting the perfect look is better than practicality.
