Sorry to hear you don't have the black tape--- it is Honda's cheaper way of making the frame black than by taking the time to paint it-- I think this is a better solution anyway so if a rock or debris does hit the frame there is less likely a chance of a ding to show --if you have metal w/ no covering and just paint w/ clear coat: dings will show after time. Eventually the black tape will fade also.

If you want to try to have Honda pay for the repair after removing the black tape, show the factory rep the official AHM poster hanging at your dealer's showroom. It is the picture which shows all of the 2001 AHM products. There's a yellow S2000 in the picture with the tape removed.

Tell the factory rep that when you decided to buy the car, that picture convinced you, so of course you removed the tape to make it look like AHM's advertising photo.

Best of luck.

Ok, I came across this the other night when I was looking at pics of the hardtop. Everyone is always asking why Honda did this and I agree that it was to give the top consistency but have any of you noticed the black outline around the door windows on the hard top? The tape on the windshield seems to blend in with that outline. Seems to me that might have been one of the reasons and that would make it more "consistent". Also, with time, the road grit would sandblast the frame without something durable to resist it not to mention rock chips and dings. I think it would be even more extreme than say on the nose since the windshield would divert the full force of the air and debris towards it. Just my opinion.

At the top left corner there are two places about the size of a dime where the paint is so thin that the primer shows thru. It's perfect everywhere else. Took it to the dealer and he said factory rep would have to look at it as they have to approve all paint repairs. He's suppossed to be in next week and I will post the results.

In the meantime, if anybody has successfully gotten this taken care of under warranty I would appreciate hearing about it and the details. Thanks
This seems odd, I removed my windshield tape a few months ago and I have the same damage in the exact same place as some of you yellow owners. Mine is about the size if a silver dollar and parts of the primer shows some exposed metal too, I'm taking my car in on Thursday to have a Honda rep look at it. My question is, why do we all have this defect at the same exact place?

Could the simple answer be that you are not meant to remove the tape? ... that the paint is thin because it's designed to be covered?

IMO leaving the tape on takes one's eye away from what is a relatively upright windscreen and makes the car look sleeker by not emphasising the area from the top of the doors up.

Having said that I do acknowledge that other folks have different preferences

Barry, thanks for the tip about the poster. That makes a good point.

AutoxEX--You have a good question but PLEASE let me know what they say when you take yours in to be looked at, i.e. are they going to cover under warranty?
