last winter i got stuck at work and an unexpected snow storm came. i left work early after just a dusting had come down. i BARELY got home. there are 2 hills between work and home and i almost couldnt get to the top. one of them is in my subdivision and i had momentum but couldnt get to the top. then the car rolled back down backwards with my foot on the brake and a.b.s going nuts. dont even leave your house w/o snow tires if snow is forecasted!

Yes , snow tires are absolutely necessary. I've run Blizzak LM22's for the past 2 seasons but if the S2000 is your only winter vehicle I'd recommend going with Blizzak WS50's. Much more aggressive tire. Handling trade off in dry conditions but LM22's are marginal at best. WS50's are cheaper, have better tread life and will inspire confidence you'll never get with LM22's.

Our weather today was crappy at best. Thoughts of WINTER is creeping up on us. With all this talk of snow and ice, here are some sobering pictures .............

Same here, I don't want to chance it plus my neighborhood is all hills. What kind of winter beaters do you guys run? I need to drop a few K on an old accord/civic/altima with a cheap set of all seasons, my job can have me driving 100 miles in a moments notice, don't want to get stuck some place with my S

This thread is about "winter driving" and it's in S2000 Talk. What makes you think we're talking about driving beaters? We're talking about driving an S2000 IN WINTER!

Although I would not want to drive my S in the winter (I got mine because I'm moving to Florida -- my winters here and in Colorado were all handled with various AWD cars plus snow tires), I sure don't understand this business of getting a "beater" for winter.

Driving is driving, and if you want a crappy car, get one. But getting one for bad weather is a slippery slope that leads to never driving your "good" car. Snow and ice? Ooohhh, get out the beater. Rain? Well, it could hail, so better get out the beater. Fog? Hey, someone could run into you, use the beater.

If you're not comfortable with a high-performance RWD car in the winter, don't drive one. There are plenty of alternatives. My STi (I had Nokian WRs for winter use) was a monster in any kind of conditions -- except wet, deep snow, when it would high-center. (Say, does the front lip on the S make a good snow plow?)

If I were to drive my S all winter, here in the mountains, at least, I'd seriously think about studded snows -- the Hakka 2s, maybe. Trouble is, I don't think there's any way to carry skis except with the top down. Brrr. HPH

AWD cars plus snow tires
This, is the SECOND best way to negotiate winters. THE best way is a 4X4 with locking center diff AND snow tires. I had an AWD TT Stealth with snow tires and that thing was a real snow drag car.

(Say, does the front lip on the S make a good snow plow?)
I had an Amuze front lip on mine and yes, it does make a very nice snow plow till you hit a block of ice. That's when I cracked it a good one.
