Although I would not want to drive my S in the winter (I got mine because I'm moving to Florida -- my winters here and in Colorado were all handled with various AWD cars plus snow tires), I sure don't understand this business of getting a "beater" for winter.
Driving is driving, and if you want a crappy car, get one. But getting one for bad weather is a slippery slope that leads to never driving your "good" car. Snow and ice? Ooohhh, get out the beater. Rain? Well, it could hail, so better get out the beater. Fog? Hey, someone could run into you, use the beater.
If you're not comfortable with a high-performance RWD car in the winter, don't drive one. There are plenty of alternatives. My STi (I had Nokian WRs for winter use) was a monster in any kind of conditions -- except wet, deep snow, when it would high-center. (Say, does the front lip on the S make a good snow plow?)
If I were to drive my S all winter, here in the mountains, at least, I'd seriously think about studded snows -- the Hakka 2s, maybe. Trouble is, I don't think there's any way to carry skis except with the top down. Brrr. HPH
I drove last winter with my new Blizzaks and it was much better than the OEM tires but you still have to be mindful and cautious. I don't have a hard top but I park my car in parking garage so for me it was alright.
ABSOLUTELY! 6th winter, daily driver, coming up.
Snow tires are a MUST. Hardtop is nice but not required. Extra driving precautions and skills are required.
This car can be just as much fun if not MORE in winter than in summer.

Jingle Bells, Baby!
PS. It is NOT my only car. I CHOOSE to drive it all winter.
Hi Xviper, I just tried looking at the .mov files you referenced in your link. Looks like they're not there anymore. It keeps saying, "The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found." Got them hidden anyplace else?

Those vids were hosted on a friend's website. He may have let the site expire or is having maintenance done on it. I don't have anywhere else to host them.

how abotu the driver behind me or in front of me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'll tell you why this doesn't apply in most cases.
If you are concerned about other drivers around you because you fear for the safety of your car, what about the people who drive MEGABUCK SUVs or other expensive daily drivers (lots of Benz's, Lexus, Caddy's and BMW's out there in the winter)? Do you think they would like to get their cars whacked into any less than we would? Like any driving circumstance (even in summer) we take that risk every time we go out there. In fact, of all the "accidental" collisions that any of us have had in our S2000's, virtually ALL have been in the summer months, NOT in winter.
So why not go the "beater" route? Don't we have a depressing enough time enduring a miserable winter without having to put up with a POS car that may not start, has crappy heat, shakes and rattles down the road, doesn't handle worth a crap, can't stop worth beans and won't corner well? Why would I give up a great handling car like an S2000, where I know it will start everytime, where I know the heat will come out like a blast furnace everytime, where I know it will go, stop and turn and inspire confidence no matter what conditions I drive it in? Why would I give up the joy and fun of driving such a great car and reducing some of the winter blahs that we all must suffer through? To preserve a car that will depreciate anyway regardless of being winter driven or not? No thanks.
