Winter storage question, top latched or not?!

Winter storage question, top latched or not?!
New owner. Done everything ready for indoor winter storage in my garage. 2 questions that give me different answers. What is your experience and advice.
1. Manual says to store in reverse gear, others say 1st. Which is best?
2. Should the top be unlatched to relieve some of the tension or not?
