Sorry to hear, people are just dumb.
This doesn't really help but I put the numbers on the reverse lookup on smartpages.com and switchboard.com. Switchboard doesn't find anything, and smartpages says "We're sorry. We did not find a listing for the phone number you entered. The phone number "(262) 705-8457" is a Kenosha, WI based phone number and the registered carrier is Sprint Spectrum L.p. However, due to number portability, some numbers have been transferred to a new service provider other than the registered carrier."
I tried other reverse lookups as well with no luck. This website will charge $15 only if it can give you the registered name and address:
http://www.ussearch.com/consumer/cwf?adID=...n=browsecatalog
I have actually had good luck finding people using pay websites that I couldn't find on free websites, though I've never tried paying for reverse lookups.
But if the police wanted to investigate this, they could find out who this number was registered to in a matter of minutes. Good luck.

The police could get the number from Sprint if you gave it to them and they cared enough to follow through. I'd suggest calling the number from a pay phone randomly and seeing who picks up.

262 is a Waukesha Wisconsin exchange. I live in the area. Where are you from?
I have a lot of friends in the cell phone business, and I was in it for 2 years.
