E-braking bad = flat spots on very expensive tires.

Just a suggestion, if you do decide to do this, do it on a rainy day...it is amazing how well the car handles on a wet surface, plus, it will give you the advantage of knowing that your car can exceed the limits you are testing against on a similar dry surface, and save some of your tires.

Why?
1. More fun than a parking lot
2. No cop worries
3. Instructor assistance

its a great idea. I've done this several times and esp look out for such lots when it is rainy. (so go ahead and call me "lame" <g>)rainy days aren't always bad for that reason - and its just overall good practice to see how the car behaves and to test your skills in reaction and how you handle the car.
