s2k is much more of a true drivers car, the M3 although it has it's merits, tends to be a typical accessory for the nuevo-riche with ego problems. That's the stereotype anyway.

I was considering getting an older e36, stripping it and making it a track whore. The M3, despite the bad reputation, is still a hell of a sedan. But that said, there really is no comparison between the two in terms of handling. The s2k wins hands down every time.

It's lighter, better balanced and tweaked properly is one of the best handling mass produced cars built to date. Just expect to loose all the fancy gizmos for it.

2 pennies.

If you like the M3, keep it. If you want to go to an S2000, switch. It's not rocket science. You come to an S2000 site and ask if we would prefer an S or a M3?

P.S. Nice post: "But its a Honda....you are comparing filet minon to fried chickem IMO...."

before buying the S 2 weeks ago, i tried out an M3 convertible. it had SMG which i hated. with the 6 spd it would probably be ok, but still the M3 does NOT live up to the expectations. I mean, reading all the glorious reviews and all, but in reality and behind the wheel, it's sort of a different story. that, plus the fact that i used to own a 328 back in germany. costs for repairs easily summed up to the purchasing price, total nightmare.
cheers.

M3's are for people who can't decide between a sports car and a sedan. It's a compromise for people who don't like to compromise. I had a '97 M3 sedan, and then I decided. Now I have an S2000... and a minivan.

Ok another BMW owner convert here. I had an 2001 330Ci (e46) and then a 2002 M3 (e46). Loved both cars.. but......

The cost of maintaining it one day got to me. Yes the car is hell of a car. yes it will outperform the S2000. Yes it is a in a different class ( Luxury sport coupe) . It has all the bells and whistles ( I actually ordered mine and it was fully loaded)

Again the expensive oil changes, the expensive services, the expensive parts...yikes!. I kept the M3 until it had about 80,000 miles. at that mileage the bills were Expensive as heck. Of course buying a BMW I knew it would be expensive (and was financially ready for it), but one day it was just too much for me

One day... the last day of owner ship in fact the BMW shop told me it needed another $4,000 in repairs. I traded it in the next day for the S2000.

I would say buy the e46 M3, but be ready for the really high cost of maintenance. If you want something reliable and easy to maintain go S2000 like i did.

m3 is more of a hoe getter IMO

I think everything is better about the M3 except the price. If you can afford an M3, why go S2k? Just my opinion....
because with the price/maintenance difference between the s2k and the m3, the guy buying the s2k can also get a killer motorcycle. That was one factor of motivation for me when buying the s2k instead of going further up market. I already have a stretched busa, but I want a short wheelbase bike too. If i had gone after a 3 series I couldn't possible afford to have that AND a second bike.

he who dies with the most toys wins right?

-S2000 = fun to drive, maintain, handles beastly
