We looked at the raffle thing when we did the first Free Lunch giveaway (thanks Rick ). The only problem is that it's illegal You can't charge a fee to improve one's odds of winning a prize. Everyone must get the same odds. So requiring a fee to get any odds at all is a no no (that's why you see no purchase necessary on these types of games). Charities get a let but unfortunately we can't.

Oh, and I thought about my usage of the internet...

I pay $50 bucks a month to basically download mp3's and programs once in a while... and porn(rarely )
I think I can pay $1.67 extra a month (to s2ki) which I am on 24/7

Cthree,

Why don't you post an email account that can accept paypal. You maybe pleasantly surprised what people are willing to contribute.

Thanks for running a great site.

I would pay $20 a year as well. There should probably be an option for multiple year membership too. I think Guests should be still welcomed though. Maybe S2Ki should be setup so only members and car dealerships can sell and buy from the Market Place (Group Buy) section. That would definately make the cost of being a member worth it.

as much as i hate seeing those trolls who come and post one thing about how bad the s2k is, i think it will also affect those who seriously like the car, want to buy the or, or just interested in the car, and making them pay just to post would not work.
*wow, is that the biggest run on sentence or what!*

i think a status bar would do nicely, some freebies. And maybe some perks. I know the VWvortex allows people to chat online with their version of IM. i think that would be great for us here...

I agree with those who don't think people shouuld be only allowed to post if they pay for the privilege. That does appear to be a little at odds with what I first said! People need time to consider taking the plunge. For many people, their new S2000 will be the reason they're browsing a BB for the first time. They'll no doubt have many questions they want to ask, and posting being conditional on a fee would put many people off. We perhaps tend to forget that that first tentative post can be a bit daunting anyway!

I lurked around for over a year before I joined, and in the main I was put off by my slow dial up connection and the sorry state of the old board before cthree offered it a new home. Seeing the huge increase in the quality of the site and getting a broadband connection decided me in the end!

Trolls (the offensive ones anyway) are a pain in the ass aren't they? Generally speaking the members and moderators here deal with them very well IMHO, usually greeting them with restraint, and answering their more loony offerings with humour and informed comment. I firmly believe that it's because they don't get the confrontation they seek that they don't hang around too long. I think the board should stay public if only to show the testosterone induced pecker wavers from other car boards that there is another way to conduct these forums
.

Maybe that would encourage more folks to use the search function. Seriously, are there any newbie questions that haven't already been covered multiple times in this forum?

Site should be kept free....I know it helped me buy my car and join this great board.

However, to keep it 'quality', I believe there are enough generous patrons on the board who would be willing to donate to keep it going.
