Get ramps. They are safer than jack stands.

The proper jack points are in the FAQ. Also, the owners manual.

"proper jack points"?? I've owned my 03 S2000 since new and the only way I ever put jackstands under my car is on the frame rails. Never had any issues and doing it that way prevents this type of screwup.

yep the L shaped metal is where you want to be. almost did the same thing on mine the first time, was about to lift it up when i noticed the L shape was much thicker

But why the only jack points are on the sides? Using the frame rails is equally acceptable. That is the strongest point of the car.
