Well a good reason not to "cover up the bling" would be because the heat wrap not only blocks heat from exiting the pipes and increasing under hood temps; but it also holds moister within itself causing your expensive J's header to rust and corode at a very quick pace..So unless you want to buy another J's header in a year or two...Leave the bling

then what is the purpose of buying the header wrap in the first place?

^ Race purposes....they use them on the track..You will see it on "Track Only" car's mainly...and they dont mind replacing the pipes after a year or two..they are used to replacing the engines on an annual basis..or even less depending on what motorsport you are refering to.

How often does your car see rain? Rust may not be an issue. The wrap WILL REDUCE underhood temperatures. I have used it on my motorcycle exhausts with no ill effects. I also think that a wrapped header looks more "race" than a bling exhaust.

I agree with you about the reducing the underhood temps....but the wrap itself holds moister...My car see's moister anytime it rains outside...My s is my daily driver...That's one reason I wouldnt ruin a good header.

A header wrap could also cause the header to develope cracks if it holds in to much heat.
