If you are not stomping the throttle at 6500rpm, just crusing....no snow on the ground (under 40mph)......there is no force on earth of hearven to break the s02s loose.

You drove in NYC when it was 25 below 0 - I have to believe that you mean Celsius? And you're kidding about breaking loose S02's in the cold under 6500 right? Not when it gets cold. Pulling out of my company parking lot late at night, on a day when the temp never got above 20 degrees, I can spin 'em real easy, and I don't get anywhere near 5K pulling away.

S02's are drivable in all the temps that I've encountered here in NYC (which has never been lower than about 8 degrees F since '02), and yeah you can go full vtec as well. That said, they do get progressively more slippery below 50 degrees. It's too bad that the original poster had a situation where they bit back hard.

I went back and looked at the road again today and there is a lot of patch work that appears to be kind of slick. Also, the road bevels out in the center and when I drove back over it my car seems harder to turn, I forgot what they call it but it's almost like my car is pulled by ruts in the road. I'm thinking this is why I lost such control after my shift problems. I'm going to post pictures tonight of my car.
thanx for your support,
Alex

By under 6000, i mean like 2500-3000. If its that cold, you shouldnt be VTECing anyway. I have never spun the s02s in the winter. Just drove carefully. He def hit an oil slick. I drove it 25 below 0 Faren. with winchill.....new yorkers know what day I mean. The tires were rock hard, but didnt slip at all.

Well, here's the items that I think are going to need replacing:
Driver's door (baddly dented and scraped)
Driver's Rear Fender (Badly dented and scraped)
Soft top (Ripped)
Front Lip (Cracked)
Front Bumper (chipped)
How much you think I'm going to be spending on repairs?
Thanx,
Alex

Another case of pilot error, I think. Cars (even S2000s) don't just go flying off the road and up a hill without the driver making some serious mistake(s)! There are too many owners out there who somehow manage to drive around without incident on warm, dry pavement, but get clueless and helpless when conditions deteriorate.

Experience and practice will help. Paying attention to what you're doing and what effect it has on the car will help. Being smarter about how and why the car works the way it does will help, too. This was, I think, an inexperienced driver's accident.

I'll agree that I do not have too much experience with this car in poor conditions. However, the conditions seemed fine. I think I should be able to drive in a straight line normally w/o flying off the road. Something went wrong.. I don't know if I the shifting problem made my rear end come out and I over corrected or if it was a combination of things ie: patched road, cold, bevelled road. All I know is that if I keep this car I will not be driving it when it's cold and I definately will be extremely cautious with it for awhile.
thanx,
Ale

Sounds like you hit black ice. Limited slip differencials tend to spin the car in circles while totally on ice. Perhaps this is what happened. Sorry for your aggrevation.
