Default Wrong Octane!!

I accidently filled up with PLUS rather than Premium. Do you think octane boost will offset my error? Or should I just drive non-vtec till the next time i fill up?

Matt

You should be fine. You can even go into VTEC if you want. Supposedly, a lesser octane will make the engine no peform to it's peak level.

Shouldn't be a real problem. Just listen for pre-ignition (pinging/spark knock/detonation). The computer will adjust the timing to compensate but you might feel some power loss.

The engine control will undoubtedly retard the spark and you'll be fine. Please let us know the impact on performance--good info if you're in the middle of nowhere and the one gas station is out of premium.

Ooops--clicked reply too soon.

The only thing that might be a problem is that your engine could possibly have some run-on (dieseling) after you shut off the ignition, especially in hot weather. Running like this is very, very bad for the motor. Solution: put your car in 6th gear, press firmly on the brake pedal, turn off the ignition, and then let the clutch out briskly, keeping the brake pedal depressed firmly.

in the manual it says its ok just for temporary uses, but you will definately loose power. if it starts pinging/knocking, syphon it out ASAP.

I could tell no difference in performance or economy for everyday driving in hot weather (Dallas) with regular gas. I use premium anyways just cuz
