Wtb s2k anything to look out for ?
Im currently on the hunt for a clean titled s2000 and was wondering if their was anything specific i should watch for?? whats the most common part that breaks on a s2k? specifically the 1st gen ap1s
Typical used car things like- VIN code on all body panels. history of maintenance is critical. look for unmolested cars. look UNDER the car too.
AP1 specifically- check intake valve retainers. S2000 in general- compression check on all 4 cylinders. check that rear axle nuts have s2ki torque- its a bonus if it has been but not a deal breaker. early AP1's (00, 01, and half 02's) also will need to have the oil banjo bolts updated to 03+ spec especially if you're doing any boost/track/slalom stuff.
as always, if it looks too good to be true, walk away. something you don't like about the deal. walk away. seller isn't forth coming about vehicle details. walk away. be prepared to wait for your perfect car.
When you need to buy tires- and you will because the previous owner likely cheaped out- for god's sake, buy good tires.
good luck- look around this site extensively and all this will become clear.
