I believe, judging from the amount of damage, that they will in all likelyhood, total the car out.

Not a chance I would take that car back.

I'm pretty sure (judging from the pictures) they will total it anyway.

There's actually quite a bit of empty space inside that front fender. The frame rail is quite a bit inboard of the quarter panel. You won't know if it's actually damaged the frame until someone does further assessment of the damage.

As to whether it gets totalled or not, sometimes that is not up to you. It's pretty hard to get a car as new as that totalled. Of course you can always seek extra damages, or have it fixed and sell it. But I wouldn't say for sure just from the pics that the car can't be fixed properly.

I hope that either way, it works out well for you- but keep your chin up and don't lose hope. At least it sounds like you were okay- that's the important part.

Best of luck,
Peter

steve975: the sr71 is a spy plane developed in the 70-80's. dubbed 'black bird'

soundzero: wrong. his insurance should pay the additional damages if the other parties limits are only 5k. chudc's ins. should go after the other guy's carriers or the other guy personally. Chud shouldnt be involved in the money, just getting his car fixed.

Chud: damamges dont look too bad. I used to work at City Auto Body in simi valley. (i still live there!) They are the authorized repair shop for 1st Honda. they will give u a COMPLETE estimate as long as u have insurance info.

from my experience (ive done collision estimating for 3 years), and from the photos, i can see the offending driver nose dived from slamming on his brakes and completely missed the rebar on the rear bumper, goin virtually under the car. There shouldnt be much frame damage at all. The side, however looks like it might have dented the frame, but not at a critical point. I'd say fixer, not totalled... but this is only judging from the pics. Where is your car now btw? What body shop? and when and where did this happen?

Wow, I think I've seen your car then cruising around. When I get it back we'll have to catch up sometime.

It's at B&B Auto in Thousand Oaks. It happened at like 6:45am on my way into work on the corner of Ave. De Los Arboles and Parkview Dr., just past the DMV, before the Knolls Apts.

Thanks for all of the tips. I suspect it'll be fixed too if I had to guess.

In my experience, the car has been rather cheap to repair. Granted, it was mostly cosmetics, but I had a 100kmh accident into a guardrail with 3 hits and needed front and rear bumpers. Including assorted paintwork and new taillights the total came to 1300 EUR.

Porsche 911 front bumpers are quoted at 3900 EUR without paint... ours are under 300.

Good luck man!! Glad you survived that ordeal, must have been quite a shock ramming into that traffic signal! Give the other guy's insurance hell!
