edit - Sweet, I lost my Community Organizer title.
Isn't awesome $50 and you don't have to be a mod anymore

Just kidding .....I've got a feeling there is a slight problem with the membership status for CO's and Mods.

IMO, I see many many many many "guests" who post with issues big and small in the UTH forum. They get solid advice from some extremely knowledgeable people. Often times, the advice they give likely saves them far more than the mere cost of a membership. <cough>hint, hint<cough>

Great post, Xviper! When I first discovered this site and started posting here, I had no idea it was supported by memberships. I recall that I ran into a "credibility problem" a couple of years ago because (1) I had remained a visitor so long, and (2) I had memtioned that I was 60 years old (then) while my personal info page reflected I was born in 1969! Well, the latter turned out to be a glitch with the board. Xviper helped me with that and invited me to become a member. Before that, I had no idea that one REALLY SHOULD become a member and support this board IF one finds himself using it alot. I said "sure" and paid my membership, and have since.

So I have a suggestion, as many (like I was) may not be aware that this is a member-financed board, and their dues payment is required for its continuation and growth. Perhaps some language could be added to the home page like: "If you enjoy this board, please consider joining by becomming a member for only $25 per year --- or better yet become a Gold member for $50 per year" (If those amounts are still correct.) This would at least let new viewers know that, although visitors are permitted, this is basically a membership board.

This board has had value to me. How much? Well, if I had done what I was goin to do when I first started posting here there is about a 75% I'd have bown my engine from hydrolock. There are other smaller examples of value too, like the sponsor group buys, and such.

Hope this helps,
Richard

I agree with wisconsin....

I have always stated there should be a grace period between signing up and the ability to post. That would stop some of this senseless posting by noobs like we have witnesses in the Car Talk threads <ahem-roadster-ahem...>. Another thought would be limiting the number of posts a "Guest" could make, eigther on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis.

I see "guests" that have been here longer than myself and have higher PPD than myself... and thats just a pathetic shame!

Thanks for posting this topic xviper!

Bump.

This board helped me become more integrated into the car scene and has made me much more knowledgable about the S2000 (a car I had wanted since it debuted). Aside from all of the useful information that people have provided me, I've met a lot of good people through meets, etc. This is truly a community and if possible, $20 to $50 for a membership is a great way to say thanks to the Mods who make this board what it is (particulary cthree et al, who keep this site up and running). I'm more than happy to support the site as much as possible.
