There is no right answer to this question. Every year is beautiful in its own right for its own reasons. Each generation/iteration of the S2000 has its own charm, its own beauty, and its own driving experience.

The important thing is whether you own one or not

Aside from 00-01, I think 04-05 is the worst.

- No 9k

AND

- No FlashPro

Stock AP2 powerband is abysmally narrow. You have to up the redline and/drop the engagement point via tuning to avoid dropping out of vtec on the 1-2 shift with anything short of a powershift.

'00/'01, with '04/'05 engine swap (keeping 9k rev limit), AP2 rear subframe, '08/'09 wheels.

With the torque of the AP2, driving an AP1 will feel like the gas pedal is broken.
Actually many consider the 04 - 05 the worst year to own. It is the softest of all the S2ks and on a dyno you do not see the gains of the 06 up (No flash tune). So even all that torque and the broken gas pedal of the AP1 it will dyno the same once it has Intake, header, exhaust, and a tune as an AP1 with the same mods. What I hate about all AP2 is the shifting is constant. I enjoyed having 200 plus hp from 7400 rpm to 9100 rpm in my AP1! Not to mention the faster rack, stiffer front bar, more lift throttle oversteer, lighter weight, and did I mention the 9k redline!

What's funny is all these 'differences' don't make a stock for stock time difference at the track. So it's just personal preference.

I can stay within vtec between gear shifts. It's called redline. Staying in vtec is less important in an Ap2 then an ap2, the power curve is different.

Again, these differences don't make any time difference at the track and thus are moot.
