Yellow Lights
Hi there-
I was recently told that Hella produces a replacement headlight bulb for the S2000. It's a yellowish color similar to other cars' headlights used in Japan and other countries.
I used the SEARCH, but all I could find was the LeMans usage to seperate the classes of cars and the French law that makes them popular in Europe.
I'm not talking about applying yellow film to the headlight glass or housing- I'm talking about the actual BULBS in HID.
Has anyone here heard of it? I understand that it's legal- is that true?
I'm interested in these because supposedly they give better visibility- which is something I would definitely welcome.
Any info on this? THANKS!

Yellow light does a great job of cutting through foul weather conditions such as snow, fog, rain, etc. I am under the impression it is illegal to use anything but white lights in the US. People seem to get away with the lightly tinted blue bulbs w/o problem, but I know I got pulled over the first day I put some yellow bulbs in a different car of mine a few years back. Are yellow HID's even available? I've never seen them.

3000K HID bulbs are yellow and available... But yeah, each state has their own ordinance in regards to headlight bulbs, so check with your local authorities...
Yellow lights aren't better than stock, if you're looking for the best you can get. For normal night time driving, you want something as close to daylight as possible.
Yellow isolates blue in things so it looks more grey, and can help cut out haze. Also, because its not so bright, its a good driving/fog light color because it causes less glare. More imnportant than color is where the lights illuminate though.

There is no way yellow lights are illegal in the US. Several manufac. provide yellow driving lights stock (acura/lexus comes to mind).
Colors of light allowed to shine forward: white, yellow/amber.
Colors of light allowed to shine to the rear: red, amber/yellow, white as backup light only.
Red is not allowed to shine forward. Blue is not allowed anywhere on a car. High wavelength xenon bulbs can get away with this, but such things as those blue LED washer nozzle lights are completely illegal.

Try looking here to see the 3000K HID kits and bulbs.
I honestly can't imagine using these as my everyday headlights. In fact the only time I would even consider wanting to have them would be in bad weather. Might work good retrofitted into some fog lights so long as they were aimed properly so as not to blind oncoming traffic.
