Default are you delicate when driving your S2000?

i don't know what it is, but i tense up and freak out when i have to go over even small bumps. i feel like every time i go over bumps or unavoidable potholes, i'm slowly "breaking" my car bit by bit. i don't like cornering too fast because i'm afraid i'm going to break the steering column or something. yes, i know it's ridiculous, but i used to drive old nissans and even my TSX like a grandma.

does anyone else flinch when they go over bumps? the best way for me to describe it is that i am very delicate with the car when i'm driving it. i don't even rev that much! i shift at around 4000 RPM unless i'm flying down an on-ramp and merging.

how do i break the habit of driving like a grandma?

I flinch when I hit potholes. I shift around 4k during normal driving as well....there is no point in making your engine scream during day to day driving. I'm relatively conservative when it comes to driving until I decide to have some fun, that way I appreciate the car that much more when I let it loose. I don't think there is a need to drive like a jack-ass everywhere.

Take your car to some trackdays, auto-x, or even mountain runs....you'll let loose.

You don't have any problem a few weekends of autocrossing couldn't cure.

I usually shift at 4000-4500 too and I drive like a maniac (according to SOME people ) so that's no biggie.

Look at it another way. You are paying for that car and will eventually get rid of it. It's not like it's a family heirloom. You are going to get about the same for it when you sell it or trade it in regardless of how you drive it, as long as it is maintained properly and not bent. So you are paying the same price/mile whether you fling the car about with wild (but controlled) abandon or drive it like grandma. Why pay for worry when you could be buying all the fun of a carnival ride with the same dough.

I am pretty sure you are going to get the "what is wrong with you, just rev it to 8500 and have fun" response. But I would say drive the way you feel comfortable. my wife drives the car and as never even gotten above 6K once. I on the other hand go there regularly. If you don't want to rev the sh@t out of it then don't. I am sure as you get more used to what the car can do you will be a little more aggresive.

As far as the bumps. I don't flinch over bumps but going over speed bumps I always am waiting for the sound of scraping the front lip. Hasn't happened yet though.

Go luck.

Im sure most of us take it easy in traffic. From time to time i get people honking at me because im not getting to the next traffic light as quick as i can. Forgive me if im not in a real hurry to get to that red light . But Boofer, i think you bought the wrong car if you dont want to turn hard.

i would never say i drive delicately. but i would say i try to always drive carefully.

it's not how hard you drive it as much as how you drive it hard that will determine how much you wear or damage your car. the car was made to spin up and take corners at high speed all day without any issues. it wasnt made to slam potholes or miss shifts.

Seriously??

It's not a car that begs to be babied, at all, it's like a hi-strung, spirited Stallion that loves to run, and run.....and buck a little, then run some more.

Depending on how I'm feeling is how I drive it. Somtimes I baby it, and am in no rush, and sometimes I let her rip!

Of course I'm sure everyone cringes when dealing with potholes and really crappy areas of the road, but the car was made to hit the higher rpms. Drive it however you feel comfortable, but you're not gonna break it if you get it into the higher rpms.

Hey - this is a HONDA! Hondas don't break unless you do something relly out of the ordinary (and for this car, high revs and quick transitions are ordinary). Now, get out there and have some fun!

lol, delicate?

I'm cautious of pot holes, steep inclines, places to park, materials to wash my car with, maintenance with quality products and logical operation.

But never delicate.
