are you delicate when driving your S2000?
I didn't buy this car to take it easy. It's my weekend car, and almost every weekend it's been at some Auto-X or like event. It sees redline at least once every time I take it out, unless the weather sucks. My gas mileage show, front tires, and the brake dust on my front wheels show how I drive it, haha. So like others, I drive it hard, but I take care of it. Although I don't really have enough miles to talk about how I maintain it, it will be maintained properly, I try to avoid potholes (it's Michigan, there's no avoiding crappy roads), park FAR away from everyone else, don't follow anyone too closely, etc.
Some of you must be new to Hondas. I'm coming from a mildly built (but stock block) Integra GS-R that I used to rev to 8500 every time I drove it. 109k miles and still spankin' Type R's by surprise before it got stolen
FWIW, I'd much rather buy a car I know was raced and owned by a responsible owner than some random person with questionable abilities on how to take care of a car.

If you ever ride a high reving motorcycle, then driving the S2K like it should be driven becomes second nature. My Ninja 636's power band is around 12-14K rpm and I'm so used to the screaming and vibration that I have no problem keeping the S2K hovering around 6-7K in 2nd and 3rd gear. My daily commute consists of driving thru the canyons and I try to get my money's worth. Trust me this car was not designed to be driven like a Corola.
Can't say I'm delicate when I drive the S.
I don't drive it everyday since I ride my bicycle to school. So for the 2-3 times a week I do get the chance to take it out... it's rather "spirited."
Proper maintenance done though, of course. I absolutely love driving it and plan on keeping it as long as possible.

It took me about 10k miles before I got over the feeling like I might break the car. Most of the time I change gears aound 5k rpm (AP2) and drive around 3.5k rpm. I find these points in the rpm band to provide a reasonable amount of power and decent mpg (about 23).
Instead of judging the amount of pain you are inflicting on your S2k by the rpm's you are shifting at, judge by your tire wear. If you are going through tires every 5k miles, you are probably driving the car hard. And it is likely you are shorting the life of your auto. If you are getting 20k miles on your tires, you are NOT doing anything with the S2k that it can not handle. You will NOT break the S2k prematurely with a driving style that yeilds 20k miles on a set of tires.
Lastly, just enjoy the car. It is just a machine, if you break it, you can fix it.

i learned long ago that it's just a car, though. every new car i've purchased, some clown hit me (ranging from just slight license plate bracket dents to hitting my parked car on the side of the street and ripping off the bumper and mashing half the car), and this S2000 is no different. two door dents from asshats and another one swerved and ran me off the road.
i guess i should just drive it like i know i can, and have some fun.
