I remember when I was a teenager, I made sure to tell everyone how mature and responsible I was.

Looking back on that now, I had no idea.

I too bought my S at a young age. I was 18 when i bought mine and am only 19 now. I bought it cash and left the dealer with the most precious item in my life. I got all my race days out of me with my first car (99 Prelude SH) and now take car of my S like its a precious diamond. Good to see that you appreciate your car so much!!!!

I refuse to believe that those who cannot use proper grammar are responsible with their car!

That's awesome that you have a new found respect for and s2k. Its not a car that is going down in history, but it will make history. Its a great experience driving the car. I wouldn't say it was an obsession for the car, but more my calling. it lucky you dude. hehe! From the first time honda released the car I have been in love with it since then. I nearly went to any honda dealer just to try and test drive it, even the local dealerships. so long story short. I just finally got mine in 2009. I own a 2001 ap1 honda s2000 that I am PROUD of. Its a beautiful machine, I would keep it for the rest of my life. If it were possible I would literally have them bury me and my car but thats way to selfish, so i will pass it on to my younger brother.

Very nice, I got MY01 right after i turned 17 about 2 months ago and i have enjoyed every minute of it, but of course i want more power cause im a teenager. This car has been a blast to drive and when i am driving in the school parking lot i feel like a king and i rule the school. Hopefully i get as much out of it as the OP and be able to mod it more when my dad lets me do so. This is a great community with a ton of amazing information and i'd like to say thank you also.

This is what you call "Jumping right in"! I started on a 65 hp car, moved up to a 135 hp car, then to a 200 hp car and finally the S2000, my most high performing car to date. This progression of power forced me to fine tune my skills in increments. I've been driving for 14 years now and have never once been involved in an accident "knockonwood". I log some 25,000 miles a year combined.

I'm glad to hear that the S2000 has forced you to mature in many ways. I just want to make sure you never forget that there is no substitute for experience. If I had my S2000 back when I was 17 and foolish I'm pretty sure my accident record would have been flawed!

jeez it's a scary thought that there are teenagers on the road being given cars like this. i'm happy that i drove a 1.8L Jetta from 17-19 that i paid for myself... taught me a world of respect right there without endangering everyone around me.
I agree. Teenagers should not be GIVEN a car like this with their parents to foot the bill. I bought my s2000 almost 2 years ago at age 18. A lot of my friends thought I was going to crash it, their parents thought I was going to crash it, and even my parents were probably worried but the difference is if anything happens to it I have to pay for it myself. I think that is the main difference when it comes to how a teenager respects their car and the privelege of driving. If you have your parents there to take care of the bills when you mess up, no big deal. Once you have to start paying for things yourself it gives you a whole different level of respect and responsibility.

Just my .02 cents

Well i had an 03 1.8T passat for 2 years including my permit and that wasnt super slow but not fast at all. I hit 80 at about every time i get the chance and have yet to get a speeding ticket and i dont have a radar detector, even went 126 a couple times. But trust me i care a lot about my S today when i got home from school it was raining and once i got it in my garage i wiped down every inch of the car dry.

Glad to hear you were so responsible with the car at 17. I had a 4 cylinder automatic accord as my first car and I'm glad I did. I don't think I'd be responsible enough or a good enough driver for an s2k as a first car
