jeez it's a scary thought that there are teenagers on the road being given cars like this. i'm happy that i drove a 1.8L Jetta from 17-19 that i paid for myself... taught me a world of respect right there without endangering everyone around me.
sums up my thoughts completely.

WOW, I could not picture my self in a S at 17 or 18. As a matter of fact I was 18 years old when got the only thing ever in my life that was given to me, A 1974 for F100, oh ya that's right and the catch was I had to make it run : )

So with that being said my old ford lived up to its name quite often, I was fixing that thing daily because it sat for 5 years before I got it. but the bright side is that by the age of 20 I was a pretty dam good wrench for v8 motors at least.

age of 21 I bought my first primer black auto 4WS 88 prelude and the Honda world opened up to me.

Now after owning over 30+ Honda's ranging from preludes, accords, lots of civic and Integra's I finally got my hands on a 01 S2000 with a ap2 front and a mugen rep. hard top. This dam thing is sexy and a blast to drive and at 26 years old I do consider my self to be a great driver with a good understanding for both front a rear wheel drive cars both N/A and boost.

The down side is not all teenagers beat up on their cars, some 26 year old's seem to do it also ( hint hint ) after having my S for 6 weeks and of course loving the stage 3 act clutch that was just put in when I got it, I was driving it like I always drove, HARD and FAST. beating up on it like I always did with my civic and or integra with no fear of what I would just have to fix my self with parts off Craigslist or a local junk yard and then back on the road doing it again , well needless to say I just blew up my Transmission and guess what Teenagers, this BILL is on me, it has not been cheep!

So my car should be back on the road tomorrow and now that I have a S and no junk yards around eastern WA with unlimited parts like D and B series, treat High end cars a little nicer, get some practice on the road and if its your wallet that takes the hit like mine just did...... I'm sure you will drive with a little lighter foot and a bit slower shift and treat the car with lots of respect. I know I will ............... most of the time : )

I got my S when I was 17, about to be 18. I also didnt know to much about the car, I just loved the look of them. My parents got the loan for me, but I have made all the payments on it to date. I'm turning 19 this month, and I have been on this site almost everyday looking at all the info on this car. I feel like I know the s2000 very well now. I'm really glad there are a few more people in the younger age group like I am that isn't just abusing the car. Good story man.

Great write up. I have to agree with you that this car can make people mature quicker and its mostly due to this great community S2ki. I'm not as active as I used to be since I lost my S2000 and have not been able to acquire another but I love this site, best car community in the internet IMO.

I don't understand why people feel some sort of moral superiority because their parents treated them like shit (or were in the poorhouse).

Are you implying that if you were not given a car when you start driving...that your parent's must have treated you like shit?

My parents wanted me to learn to manage my finances and make responsible choices. That's why I had to work in High school in order to buy my first car. I worked 30+ hours a week while in high school and still graduated with honors and acceptance into a highly accredited engineering university. If my parents had just given me everything I would have had zero motivation during my immature high school years.

Not to digress, but how did you "disintegrate" the clutch??

Cool story I've come across many teenagers that are wayyy more mature than adults....

i cant believe how many highschool kids have s2000s, dang lol.
nice to see the OP is responsible, it was cool to see how the car matured you. judging by some comments left by others in here, id say you are more mature than some older members on here. As big of a ricer as I was in highschool, im glad i didnt have a s2000, I wouldve been dumb with it haha. But props to the OP!!! Very cool read.
