I live in NM, lots of desert and long stretches of roads, every now an then I get the urge to top out my car. My car being bone stock engine wise, I've gotten my S2K up to a 146 MPH.
How fast have you gone??

The CR is cabable of 150 flat out, but certainly not smart on public roads.

Ur right. But when those public roads happen to be empty for 90-100 miles, with nothing but desert surrounding you, it's not bad.
Keep it to the track please.

Until you hit an animal, or a truck tire.

There may not be any other cars, but it only takes one piece of debris to send you into real trouble...
How are you supposed to keep it on the track when its a top speed run.... Salt flats maybe...LOL
I dont race on the streets, but I cant think of any tracks I have been to that would allow a top speed pull
. I do agree racing should be done at the track, but I have also made lots of trips from LA to Vegas and have been into triple digit speeds on many of those trips

I got up to 138 in my Integra GS-R and shut it down because I came upon traffic. Never again, that crap is way too dangerous for public roads, traffic or no traffic. Like others have said, all it takes is a slight undulation in the road or debris large enough to upset the balance of the car to take you out. Then you're stranded with no one for miles in case you need medical assistance.
See if you have an event like the Texas Mile in your neck of the woods... http://www.texasmile.net/

Once I had a yellow early 80's corvette keep passing me and slowing down so I would have to pass him. He made it impossible to keep the cruise control on. If he wanted to follow or get out front it would have been fine since the car's black tint and top made it look like my yellow S2000. In the end I was tired of his eratic speeds. Rowed thru the gears to put some distance on him. It wound up at 134mph when I bothered to look. I have no real urge to run the car beyond normal highway speeds.
185mph indicated is as fast as I have see. Speedo error meant is was more likely 170mph or so. It wasn't a S2000 though.
Oh, it was all done at the local autocross so it was safe.

I got to 135 between turns 4 and 5 at Road America. And that was without a lot of experience, so I'm sure I could squeeze a bit more out if it now.
I never understood top speed runs. If I want flat out speed, I'll take an airplane. Speed is all relative anyway. 135mph in an S is nothing. What's intense is hard braking just the right amount at the right time from 135 mph then late apexing a 80* turn at 55mph while trying to hit the outside rumble strip but not going into the gravel trap.
