03 ecu in 00 s2000

how can i tell if its a real 03 ecu. and numbers on the sticker on it that would indicate a model year? i hear the r good gains to be had by doin this upgrade.

model number ends in a02

what do i need when i get it?? vin# and anything else?? does it really make good gains?
