04-05 AP2 F22C Short block availability
#11
I didn't buy from the guy in Poland but I bought one from a shop in Europe. I don't recall the part number but its "legit". Just because a part is discontinued in the US, does not mean its not available elsewhere. Recently I bought at least a dozen parts that US dealers/online sellers said was discontinued.

All of you highjacked this members thread.
legenyes according to Honda it is a supersession for the 04-05 block. My guess is early 05 MY. As for physical difference there may not be one just because the number changes does not necessarily mean a physical change was made. Sometimes for example the numbers change if the OEM changes manufacturers or some other internal change that isn't physical. That being stated I am not verifying there is or isn't a physical difference.

Think Honda changed the part numbers for everything as part of in house system changes. When that was

Aren't these old stock shortblocks a crapshoot anyway? Since they've been sitting for so long, etc. I'd imagine they'd need to be fully disassembled and reassembled again with proper lubrication etc, and tolerances re-checked. Unless of course they were stored in a climate-controlled environment and kept clean. Even still....

Bottom line, it seems something about them being stored so long caused issue. Because the prelube they used all dripped away. Or maybe moisture, corrosion, etc because where/how stored.
Whatever issue was, if anyone got a new block now it'd be wise to disassemble, check all clearances, relube, reassemble.

Couple years ago, guy in, iirc, France gets a new Honda shortblock. It lasts a week. They get him another one. That lasts a week. No its on. People wanting to know whats going on. In the end, it was 3 new motors, none of which survived.

Going to respond here for future reference. I researched this issue a bit(both here and other s2000 forums) and the engines that had issues were part numbers ending in E09. The issues were mostly mentioned in the past 2-5 years. The current version is E10. A guy in Slovenia or Slovakia had the same issue and was kind enough to describe the issue as the bearings failing. Perhaps rust due to improper storage? I second the advise of disaasembling any NOS shortblock and confirming condition before operating.
It would be nice to know the real reason for the failure.
