Default '05 starting issue 2.0

Hey guys! Need your help again. Recently was having starting issues with the s2k, ultimately lead me to swap out the battery for a new one- car ran great for about a week and now I'm having a different issue. Upon attempting to start yesterday morning, it was turning over but no start. Kept trying for a minute or two, got a really loud backfire that scared the hell out of me and it started. Was at a really low, horrible sounding idle for a second or two then was normal. Drove it around normally, then about 5 hours later wont start at all, even after repeatedly turning over. Almost all stock '05 AP2 with the exception of a K&N filter and a buddyclub spec2 exhaust and berk test pipe. Also not sure if this matters, but when I turn the key on now I dont get the 5 beeps. that may be completely unrelated (green immobilizer key flashes then goes off like normal)
so far ive cracked open the fuel rail and fuel sprayed out, pulled plugs and they still look mint (replaced ~4000 miles ago with oem NGK)

Other info~ the original starting problem was battery not turning over the engine, even though it was an almost brand new napa 500cca- swapped it for a duralast and it was fine for a week or so until now.

Sorry, for the lousy XMAS timing of these issues. Have you ever run a compression test, on the engine? When were the valves last adjusted?

I have not, but quite honestly with where I'm located it would not be an easy thing to accomplish- unless I took it to Honda. The car does have 100k miles though. I picked it up at 95k. The thought of losing compression terrifies me, as if it were any serious maintenance I'd probably end up selling the car for parts.

As far as I know, never. Picked up the car from a military dude that was leaving, which is what I am. Have no contact with him anymore as he's packed up the family and left. Was planning on shipping this home with me in a few months but I can't if it doesn't run. I'm going to assume it's never been done, as he did not seem very mechanically inclined. I'm sure there is a DIY for this around somewhere- special tools I would need? Feeler gauge?

Tons of DIY's. If you're concerned about what moderate drag on a feeler gauge feels like. It's the same as the drag from rubbing the tip of your dry index finger against a dry rigid surface of choice.

So if you want to set the exhaust valves at .011" set the lash adjuster until it drags on the feeler gauge with the same resistance as your finger when you rub it across a smooth dry surface.
