Sorry, I guess I never really had to ask. I was pretty damn sure the S2000 could never hit any good 1320 times.

I mean, thats why I didn't get one !!!!

Reading the entire thread, no one answered the initial question. I was wondering what's the fastest NA time also.

I'm assuming you are still referring to 1/4 mile times. And you are absolutely right. This goes back to the saying "There's no replacement for displacement." The S2000 has a 2.0L inline 4, whereas the Z has a 3.5L V6. The main reason that the S2000 is even close to the 350Z (stock for stock) is because of its slight weight advantage (and possibly better gearing, but I'm not sure about this one). However, once you start to modify the two cars, it will be much easier to free power from the Z because it has 75% more displacement. Have you ever noticed that an aftermarket I/H/E setup on a Civic probably yields <20 hp, while an aftermarket I/H/E setup on a 'Vette can yield in excess of 50hp? It all goes back to displacement. If you're going for all out power and straight line performance, then the Z is the better starting platform, due to its larger engine. If you're going for better handling, the S is the better starting platform, due to its better balance and lighter weight. If you want the best of both worlds, then you'll have to buy a more expensive car (or maybe there is a car out there that can do both in the same price range as the S2000 & 350Z, but you may have to sacrifice some creature comforts).

I'd say: "Be happy with your Z." If you want a go-fast-in-a-straight-line car, then your mod-money will be best spent on the Z. You can always borrow your mom's S2000 if you want to go canyon carving with the top down. And all you'll have to do is put gas in it!

I bought a 350Z because I think it has potential
I think this is funny because almost every neewb comes on this board talking about the "crappy" potential supposedly of the s2000 and they are ONLY talking of 1/4 mile potential.

Even funnier is that you talk about the "potential" of 1/4 mile but modding these cars to dip into the 11's and 12's would more than likely make any of these machines piss poor track machines. By that same logic should i go onto the supra forums and say "man your 11 sec supra sucks because its slow on a track (not 1/4 mile)"
The character of the powerband also has a lot to do with track drivability! Do you think these guys running 11 sec single turbod supras are bragging about their linear power delivery and lap times at laguna seca. Even better is the % of owners of these respective car groups that actually take their car to a track (not 1/4 mile).

Why am I pissed about the 1/4 mile mentality of many car owners? Firstly they think it is the end all be all of the measure of an automobile. Second... lets suppose that the s2000 could rip off a 11 sec 1/4 mile stock... then all of a sudden you wouldn't hear any criticism even if it handled like a damn caravan on 3 wheels.

So what am I worried about..... the 1/4 mile junkies in this country are going to ruin the desire of companies like nissan, honda, and toyota, and others to make balanced automobiles. Ok, my opinion might be a little extreme... there still will be enthusiast cars... but at what point will we start getting watered down suspensions, brakes, heavier weight (beefier for clutch dumps etc), all for the sake of 1/4 mile "potential." Car makers are being sent a grim message(grim for the sports car) that enthusiasts don't give a crap about handling, braking, etc.

Instead of spending all of your money twin turboing your 350z why not buy a helmet and go spend some track time (not strip) and work on some of those lap times. I'd be willing to bet that you'll find a new respect for that 287 hp 250 or so ft/lb of torque your stock auto makes before twin turboing it and possibly reducing it's "potential" I'd be willing to bet after a few laps you might even find the 1/4 mile kind of boring.. Give it a try!
