Default 2001 verses 2002 transmissions

I am in the process of selling my car, 2001 Yellow with 3600 miles. A potential buyer who drove the car claims the shifting is not as smooth as a 2002 they drove and backed out of the deal. They claim the 2002 has a different or upgraded transmission? Anyone know if this is true.

Also, I saw the previous post on TSB's. Where are these located on the s2ki website.

Thanks for the feedback.

Change the transmission fluid to GM Synchromesh. It will shift smooth as silk. I don't think the diff is any different for the '02.

I second the decision to switch over to Synchromesh, which is what I did on my 2002. The difference is very noticeable, particularly in 1st and 2nd. Also, your dealer can do the swap for you without voiding the warranty.

Good luck.

Honda did supposedly smooth out the shift linkage for '02.

02 DOES have different tranny parts.
Gernby, how difficult is it to change transmission fluid on S2k?

I change oil myself in my garage, but I have never performed trany fluid change.

Very easy.
If you could change engine oil you could change transmission fluid.
Just make sure you get a small pump to pump in new fluid.

It is simple, but there are a few important things you should know. Do a forum search on "Transmission Fluid Change". Make sure you have new crush washers for the fill AND drain plugs and torque them properly. Also make sure the car is level when you fill the tranny back up again.

Thank you all for your replies. I am taking the car into the shop on Wed. for the spark plug recall and plan to have an assessment by the Honda mechanic on whether or not to do the TSBs.

I have heard that the clutch growl may/will come back over time and I'm reluctant to have the mechanic tear my car down only to have the same noise come back.

My biggest problem right now is the hard shift from 1-2 and 2-3. You can feel the gears catch as you shift and more noticable below 6K. A fluid change may be in order if I can do it without voiding the warrantee.
