I think you are spot on regarding the dealer not really doing the test and misquoting numbers!

Default Thank you all!

I appreciate the comment from everybody. I went back to the dealer today and they retested at no additional cost. I was out there while they did the test "with a newer guage". All four cylinders were in the 220-240 range. While the 240 is over the nominal value in the service manual of 228, I think it is likely that the gauge calibration is not perfect. The car is running great and now I have the confidence to give if the refresh it deserves. Some paint work, new leather seats, and some mechanicals.

Thanks for all of the input!

240 is actually ideal numbers. About the max people usually see. So gauge sounds like its properly calibrated, and your engine is super healthy.

Its worthwhile to make sure they torqued the spark plugs to 25LB-FT.

Several people have removed/reinstalled them.

To emphasize the seriousness of plug torque, if they come loose, typically destroys engine. Causes misfire, which soon breaks off tip of fragile plug, which bounces around cylinder gouging crap outta it.

Original pkug torque spec was too low, so Honda increased it. Billman even recommends slightly higher torque, the 25 lb,/ft mentioned.

If someone just looked up spec, and happened across original Honda spec that was too low, you'll have a ticking time bomb.
