240SX Differential Swap
Ok guys, I am a big 240SX guy, here is the info you need on the available differentials.
They will hold 500+ whp, they are cheap, there are tons of LSD options (KAAZ, NISMO, Quaife)
There are a few versions of the 240sx diff (R200)
The 89-98 240sx all had a version of the R200.
Some had a viscous LSD these can be identified by a few different means.
The easiest is to turn one of the output shafts, if the other output shaft turns the same direction it is vlsd, if it turns the opposite direction it is open.
If you want more confirmation open the housing up and look at the unit, the open diffs have a open sided case and you can see the spider gears easily. The VLSD only has a "window" on either side and the internals of the unit are harder to see.
There are 2 different housings, the non-ABS and the ABS. The ABS housing is about 3/4" longer due to an ABS sensor on the front of the housing (the one pictured in the previous line is a non ABS).
Only the non turbo 300ZX diffs are compatible, the 300ZX Turbo used a R230 diff which is physically larger.
The 240SX/300ZX has a 4.083 final drive.
The Infiniti J30 also used a R200 and is compatible but has a 3.92 final drive.
Good luck!

Also will be getting some 600 + rated axles made by these guys: http://www.driveshaftshop.com/index2.ivnu
how much are they charging for the 600whp axle mate?
All we need now is a stronger diff housing + lsd from honda
or an aftermarket source and we should have a bullet proof drive train

Finally, been waiting for this post to arise
I was looking for a diff to withstand launching abuse, I was thinking about this option too but do not have the knowledge on diffs.

The weakness and upgrades that are being pursued in the drivetrain, are these necessary for drag/launch applications only? Are axle, differential and driveshaft issues with these 400+whp outputs being experienced throughout the RPM range?
