2nd gear crunch.
1. I almost didn't buy my 04 back in April 2010 with 9k miles on it, b/c of "notchiness" in 2nd and 3rd. I bought a maintenance 2 yr. with it, but after reading how this was a "normal" complaint, I cancelled it and got my $ back!!
2. I have done everything here suggested: clutch fluid change yearly, I use Amsoil in the tranny yearly (used OEM2, and GM/Pennziol before), shifter regrease, clutch adjustment, heavier shifter knob, and shifting very exacting, giving plenty of time for the synchros to work, and shifting at over 4k rpms (when I can).
3. All of these seemed to make a very slight difference of improvement.
4. It doesn't do it all of the time, but when it does, it drives me nuts. Not enough to tear the tranny down and have the synchros replaced, but I like my mechanical things to work perfectly.
5. If I go to sell the car is when it will hurt me, b/c the buyer will think I'm just trying to unload a bad tranny, even though I'll be telling them it has acted like this since 9k miles, and I suspect, the day it was out of the factory.
6. Do the suggested items, then just drive it, knowing you have done all you can.

1. I was thinking of using a 50/50 mix of OEM2 and Amsoil just to see if any benefit for me; my son does it in his 04 b/c it popped out of gear, and that was a recommended easy fix to address it.
this seems to be a very very very common "problem" with the s.....Ive created multiple threads about a third gear bump that I occasionally feel
Ive changed clutch fluids and tranny fluids multiple times, flushed the clutch fluids, adjusted free play, greased the shifter and its still there
The only thing that makes it go away is revving past 5.5k and shifting swift and fast, and even then sometimes its not smooth. Its honestly the weirdest thing,
Sometimes i dont feel it below 5.5k, sometimes i do, sometimes i dont feel it about 5.5k, sometimes i do, I can honestly say tho that i have never felt it shifting from 7k to redline, so it seems to be a low rev issue.
Just today Im having an ACT street disk, HD pressure plate, and new Ap1 flywheel installed, im having the input spline cleaned of all rust and regreased, also having all the clutch lines bled, IM hoping this fixes it...if not then ill just have to live with it
I think its just a thing the s2000 does cause Ive read a ton of posts on this topic..a lot of people experience it

Alright I have read through every thread possible on this. A lot of what's mentioned does help. My question is do all s2ks require to be driven like that? Shifting high, having the clutch rod disengage the clutch sooner(essentially what u are doing when adjusting for zero play) stopping at the gate for a split second so the tranny speed matches the engine speed?? I feel like ass driving in traffic, reving high and shifitng relatively slow.
This is what I do. I make sure clutch pedal is presses completely before shifitng. since there is zero clutch play(I adjusted the pedal) the clutch disengages almost at the top of the pedal travel, I then take it out of first, stop at the gate ( right when you feel resistance before entering 2nd gear) and shift it in with some finesse and it won't grind, 95% of the time. Now how many owners go through this? I guess I've gotten used to doing it but I feel like its just a way around the problem. I understand we have a direct linked tranny and its quite different from most.

Most cars there are external linkages, sometimes metal rods, sometimes cables, that connect shifter to trans. This is usually because location you want shifter, optimal location for driver access, and location of trans, dictated by vehicle layout and overall design of the car, are not really near each other.
In the S, Honda managed to have shifter stick right out the top of the trans, and still be in a more optimal location for driver than most any other car.
Bottom line, no linkage. No play or slop between shifter and trans. More direct feel, etc.

2. I have had hardly any of it past few days, but I can feel it "lurking," it will rear its ugly head unexpectedly.
