2nd gear crunch on cold start
ive got an 07 s2k. on cold starts, when im shifting into 2nd gear, i can hear a crunch noise. ive learned to take it out of 1st gear, move it around in neutral, then dump it into gear and that will get rid of that noise. ive told my honda dealership a few times regarding this ever since day 1 but they always keep telling me that its normal and everything "seems" normal. i bought this car brand new and now i just passed 30k and my warranty will expire soon. im just wondering if others have this same noise. thanks
It is true on cold starts it is a little crunchy. Have you changed your transmission fluid? Here is a good DIY https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?act=S...22&t=565855&st=. Basically as hard as changing the oil.
I would start there and see if that helps.

It will still be a little crunchy when it is cold. That is just part of having a transmission like this. But once it is warmed up it should be very smooth.
Even after you change the MTF have some patients and let things warm up before you really go at it.

It is somewhat normal. You can make it go mostly away by changing the MTF every 5-8k miles. Also make sure you are not pushing the shifter to the left at all when you shift. It needs to be straight back, no pressure to the side.
This subject is revisited over and over and over and over and over again. Please use the search.
Yes... many S2000s have the cold crunch going into second and sometimes into third. Solution: double clutch the first several shifts in the morning and change your MTF frequently. Honda's MTF is better at preventing this, but Amsoil's MTF is a better overall fluid. I use Amsoil MTF, but have to double clutch the first few shifts to prevent this. Start doing it now so it becomes second nature later on. I don't even think about it any longer - it just happens for the first few miles in the morning.

go to Tjs S2k's post on the first page, what he said sounded really successful, i just changed my mtf and clutch fluid over the winter but didnt take it for a test drive, if i still have the crunch im going to change the cmc like he did

I switched to the new Honda MTF just before winter, and the difference is amazing. I couldn't use 2nd gear on cold mornings until I'd gone about 5 or 6 miles, but now it goes from 1st to 2nd with no problem about 99% of the time.
atla512: The solution to this issue is to follow exactly to the letter what slipstream444 has correctly told you to do. There is no other solution imo but to double clutch until the tranny fluid warms up. My elder brother had told me about this double clutching trick and I haven't had any 2nd gear crunching problems since
