with Ken above.
Mine popped out of 2nd decelerating and it happened quite often (typically when at high rpms).
It hasn't happened since it was repaired and it drives great.

I'm trying to get mine done at norm reeves because it's close to home.
do NOT go to norm reeves. way too crowded and poor service. i can't even get myself to explain how bad it is.

What happens if they cannot replicate the problem on the spot? Does this mean that I cannot get it replaced until something bad happens to me while driving?
I also checked my vin# and mine falls under the TSB listing. What should I do?
Thanks,
Rod

I would think if your car is in the VIN number range cited by the TSB, Honda would perform the TSB without you having to 'prove' there is a defect. I would also think that this could be considered somewhat of a safety hazard since a car suddenly popping out of 2nd gear puts a driver in the position of briefly not having full control of the vehicle.
I can see why Honda might balk at performing the TSB on vehicles outside the VIN range due to the expense. The TSB says 8.2 hours and I would imagine the parts would run $300-400. That makes for at least an $1,100 repair per car and we are talking around 8,000 total U.S. vehicles which implies a total cost pushing $9 million.

Here's the TSB if anybody is looking for it:
TSB 05-009
And for me, the dealer needed to replicate the problem before they consider performing the TSB. As daverx7 mentioned, I also videotaped my car popping out of 2nd gear just as a backup in case they were not able to duplicate the problem.

I finally had this TSB performed last week and it sure makes a difference. You don't have to fight the car going into 2nd gear anymore. They used the old parts number Honda MTF as transmission fill, but I can't tell any difference in the unaffected gears (3, 4, 5, 6). Have 500 miles on the car since the TSB and haven't noticed any additional unrelated problems yet that the work may have caused elsewhere. I'm glad that I had it done.
