Default 4.57's installed today

I went to the FAQ's and didn't see anything. I'm sure this has been asked before, but I was wondering what kind of break in period I need for these gears? Does the break in include hard driving?

Thanks,
Ray

very important. you must do 3 heat cycles right away before putting any mileage on.

drive for 10 miles, then park for 30 minutes. repeat 3 times.

then breakin like you would break the car in for about the first 500-1000 miles.

while improper breakin won't cause catastrophic damage, it's still just like any other part. your car has a factory breakin recommendation, and it is intended to include parts like the ring/pinion as well as the engine, etc.

improper breakin can cause premature failure. hence the reason we have breakin periods. so the parts can settle and adjust properly. this is how i see it.

Heat cycling and break in are very important. You need to heat the gears up and then let them cool down so the teeth mesh together properly. Sure, you can say "screw it" but don't be shocked if your tranny fails. Also, you need to gradually work your way up to vtec. I broke the gears in over 1000 miles and mine have been going strong for well over a year now.

BTW, I think Prolene knows a good link for break-in recommendations.

break-in usually takes about 1000 miles & no shouldn't drive too hard, keep it down under 4k rpm.

RPM has nothing to do with road speed.

Do you make this stuff up off the top of your head? Judging by your other posts, I'd say yes.
