The 4.77 in the AP1 is cruising at a higher RPM on the highway because the 5th and 6th gears are shorter than the AP2's.

best gas mileage is probably seen between 4000-4500rpm on highway cruise speeds. Considering you already drive the car within that range while cruising on highways then the added bonus with the 4.77 in an ap2 is that you will maintain that cruising rpm and not exceed speed limits...less tickets lol.

Gears do not add power, but as answer said they help greatly to accelerate the car. That is because power comes earlier on. For example if you take stock ap2 and dyno it, then dyno a stock ap2 with 4.77s they will probably have similar hp and torque number. However, the one with 4.77's will have lets say around 10whp more throughout the entire powerband compared to the other. meaning that if the stock ap2 is making 150whp at a certain rpm, then the geared ap2 will make around 160whp at the same rpm.

if you overlap the dynos together you will only see a gain if you show HP over Speed, if you show HP over RPM gears will show no advantage on the dyno

and most people would rather see HP over RPM. rather than MPH.

AP1 with Ap2 trans + 4.77's and smaller hieght tires FTW!!!! x 100

4.77s are so sick. You can keep up with a stock supercharged S in them.
There is a way to beat both.......... have both, hehe. Welcome to my world.
