Default 4th to 3rd gear at 80mph in trouble?

I mis shifted from 4th to Third on accident at 80mph or so. I know 3rd gear is rated to 90mph. It revved like crazy and I quickly applied the clutch and shifted back. I couldn't tell if I hit the rev limiter or not. Did I hurt my engine??? I doubt anything is wrong. NO check engine light on

A OK, you should do it more often that is where the soul of the S2000 lies.

Just make sure to match revs and don't do it while turning sharply.

The "rev limiter" is a computer controlled fuel cutoff when you pass 9,300 during acceleration. There is no "mechanical rev limiter" to prevent you from destroying the engine when you miss a downshift.

This engine destroying procedure usually happens when you intend to shift from 4th to 3rd and instead shift from 4th to 1st and the momentum from the car makes the wheels drive the engine way past 9,000 rpm. The cure is to disengage the clutch before you destroy the engine, if you can.

It sounds like you didn't get the rpms above 9,000 and you didn't hurt the engine. If you did, you'd find an engine that didn't turn any more, or a very noisy metalic sound when it did turn.
