Default 6th gear is off

Information. Car is an 02 - all original - has about 72k on the clock, and was purchased at 66k almost a year ago now. I know the clutch has been replaced (doesn't feel like a factory clutch - but close), and is mechanically, in great working order. Transmission fluid was replaced about 6000 miles ago with Amsoil.

Story: Took 2nd up, shifted at 8k, 3rd gear didn't fully engage, let clutch half way out - EERK (sound of clutch - grinding). I have experienced this once or twice. Usually going into second for some reason... Anyway, car drove fine, but 6th gear is acting up. I can go into it, but it feels "rough" and it is the same going out of gear. To describe it, I would say that going in and out of 6th gear feels like you are running the shifting rod through a metal channel (it isn't smooth).

Now, i know that this particular shift error from 2nd to 3rd has caused the problem with 5th, and most always, 6th. Just from a little bit of driving, it has smoothed out a little, but still isn't how it was before. What are some opinions? Bent fork? Tweaked something on the inside, and it will continue to "fix" itself (like it already is, slowly)? Should i replace the trans fluid again just in case?

Ah, i forgot to touch on that. No I don't ever skip shift. The most "skip-shifting" I do is if I am starting into first and then going down a steep hill, like in residential areas. Then I will generally, take the car out of first gear, then engage the clutch, rev up just a hair and go into third. Double clutch basically. If that makes sense at all..

I have seen this, and fixed it quite easily.

You likely have a high spot on the the 5-6 drive cog.

With the car off, just shift back and forth from 5th to 6th, about 50 times. report back

haha, alright. I will do that sometime. For 2 minutes or so I was sitting in it after it happened, and just went through 1st - 6th about 10 times at a park.

I will try the 5th-6th several times.
