Default 7k Is all I get

I bought my S2000 about six months ago and finally figured something out. At first I thought I was accidently hitting the clutch. Anyway I have noticed when my car is cold (meaning when the engine heat indicator is not in the middle) if I accelerate my car falls off at 7K rpm in first and second gear. It is almost like I hit the rev limiter? Is this a safety mechanism or is my car messed up? I have read the manual and do not see any information.

Help ?????

Nate

Your car is protecting yourself from high revs when cold. Drive conservatively until it is fully warmed up.

It's not a "problem". The "problem" is that there are some people who are so clueless about how cars work that they attempt to redline their sports cars when the engine, oil, water, tranny, and diff are stone cold. That will destroy the whole drivetrain very quickly.

There is a sensor in the ECU that will not allow you to redline all the way to 9k if you're not at operating temp. To my knowledge it measures coolant temp. Until your coolant reaches 140F, you will not be able to redline your car, as the ECU sets a premature redline. the reasoning behind this I think is that you should really have your oil/fluids/engine up to temp before revving to 9000rpm.

To be honest, I kinda wonder why you'd even try to rev to 9k until the engine was properly warmed up?

This isn't something that I routinely do. I had the car at work and my boss wanted to take a ride. We hoped in, he needed to feel the 9k rush we all talk about and was short changed. I have had many sports cars in my life, never blown any engines. I appreciate the helpful information. The sarcasim and attempts to flame are unnecessary.

Thanks for the Professionals on the site....
