Default AC takes while to get cold

It has about 106k miles.
I notice when I turn on the car, it takes a good 5-10 mins before the AC gets cold. I took it in to my shop who charged me $100 to do a AC service. He filled the freon because he said it was low and checked for leaks. No leaks.

But afterwards, it still takes 5-10 mins before it gets cold. I called the shop and he says it has something to do with the center console and the door not opening. But I explained that that has nothing to do with the side vents (driver and passenger side) He seems to think that the middle section and the levers not opening all the way, affects the entire AC system, including the sides. I think I am getting the runaround. Just replaced the cabin air filter. Could it be the AC compressor? May be unlikely because AC does work, just takes 10 mins after car is started to get cold.

Does anyone else have this issue or know what it might be?

I also think you're getting the runaround. That door/lever business makes no sense. But it also doesn't sound like a bad compressor. Take it to someone who really knows what they're doing with A/C and they'll start with checking the pressures which will give them a good idea of what's going on, and/or they'll completely evacuate the system and recharge with the proper amount of refrigerant.

A/C is kind of an instant thing. Once the compressor kicks on the pressure comes up and it should blow cold. The only things I can think of are low pressure or the radiator fan not coming on. There are a few doors behind the dash but only the temp blend door that could cause no cooling. It could be stuck on the heat side at first and moving slowly over to cooling, however once it has changed it should stay there IIRC. I don't believe it resets on key off. It should stay where you left it. The other door is for vent vs defrost and floor, but this door doesn't effect temp only where it is delivered. There is also a door for the cabin recirc setting which can help maximize cooling, but the A/C should be cold in either position.

Could be a stuck heater valve too. Try to wiggle that back and forth and see if it helps. I had a similar issue with the AC except it was not coming in cold at all. Messed with the heater valve and all is better.
