Adjusting Coilovers?
I have the Mugen/Showa coilovers installed in my car now. I did the fronts on sunday and the rears today. I was just curious as to the functionality of each adjuster, since the instructions are in japanese it's a little tough to figure out. Any help? Also, does anyone have a defined method for tuning the suspension. Because if I have to raise my car one more time i'm gonna shoot somebody. Thanks.
p.s.
Cdelena I received the nuts. THANKS!
And any word on your shocks. Mine are ready to go?

ReV, anyone? I have the chart which looks like this.
0.1m/s 0.3m/s
81/56 165/96
0 279/104 508/193
etc..
I have what appears to be 4 adjustments markers
the values 0,1/4,1/2/,/3,4/
Anyway, seat of the pants is not working, so I wanted to establish some baseline to document changes.

m

Visc,
How's that going? I have the same setup as you do (even down to the wheels) and I'm uncomfortable about the coilover adjustments. See http://www.s2000online.com/forums/showthre...p?threadid=9133.
How did you adjust ride height? Did you raise the car multiple times til you got it right? I don't see a way of changing ride height without disconnecting either the bottom or the top of the shock to allow it to rotate. In both cases you can only turn it in 180

Luis,
Sorry for the delay, but I was out of town for some family matters, and learned what it's like to live without TV, computers, and even my car..I don't reccomend it.
Anyway, yes you are correct about the removal ( on the bottom bolt) before adjusting the height. The real trick for me was'nt ride height (via bottom adjuster)but to find the correct springs height/distance preload. If they're preloaded to the instructions , I find the ride much too harsh for the street (even with lots of valve adj).
So, after much hesitation I lowered the spring heighth (on the damper) 6 cm, and found that this was a good middle ground for adjustability both ways. I can check for you if you'd like.
The streets here are pretty bad, but now after installing the N-0, and adjusting very little I have discovered new handling limits, and feel much better putting power to the ground. Although downside is I notice brake inadequacy now. Is this your experience? I have yet to get this setup to the track, but think it should be very good. I will let you know what adjustments I make there.
P.S.
Luis, it sure would have been nice to get those instructions in english..... Scott are you there?

Marcus,
I would be very concerned about lowering the spring perch 6cms... especially if you followed Scott's recommendation of preloading the spring half an inch. That effectively means that your spring is no longer preloaded! To me this spells TROUBLE. On a sufficiently severe bump the spring may become loose.
I'll ask Scott to post here his advice.
As for translation, it's a bit disconcerting that a $3300 unit doesn't come with translated instructions. Mingster promised to help, but he is a busy man... Would you post a re-inforcing message in the "group buy" section? As I stated there I'm ready to pay for the translation. I'll try the Japanese embassy here in Lisbon to see if they know someone that can help.

Luis,
Sorry again for the lag in timing, Travelling does that.... . Anyone who says travelling is a job perk, never had to eat dinner out of a hotel vending machine at 3am...
Re-read my post (must have been tired) and what I meant to say was to the effect that I could measure was the 6 cm difference in the gap between fenderwell and tire. As shown in the illustration. Anyway, I am very curious what your ideal setup at the track turns out to be. Comparing notes would be great.
Scott-any possibility on sending out a few of those instuctions to me?
I installed the spoiler,
and it looks very good, but someone stole the
mugen badge in the 7 minutes it took for me to buy coffee.
Possible to get a replacement?

6 cms? Did you lower your car at all? what is the distance from the fender lip to th ecenter of the wheel hub. Standard is around 36cm (I think) and I'm planning on lowering 3cms.
Anyway, my project is delayed til after easter. The race shop didn't have the time right now, and neither did I.
I'm going away for 4 weeks and will be deprived of my S (unless I can find one to rent in Australia) but hopefully not of this virtual village. I am taking the laptop.
As Scott is about to translate the instructions it all comes at a good time.

Luis,
The distance is 32 cm as you stated from fender to center of wheel. However, you'll have to take that as a guess since I measured the distance using my papers from my last assignment...(: and I cannot attest to the accuracy. Also, I've notice a tendency (that may or may not be my imagination) for the dampers to increase rates as time goes on. LMK if this is your experience as well. I might be mad butseat of the pants tells me this.
luis-I know the feeling. Luckily this time it's all fun and no work.
? (: are you inviting me for a visit? lol
