My thing is emissions now. If my car wont pass thats not good.
Well in california an AEM won't pass, you'd have to either swap to stock or you're going to have to get Mr. Franklin to help you pass.

If you're in another state I don't know if they are as strict....depends upon how they do the test. If they just do a tailpipe test you'll probably pass but if they attach to the ECU you'll probably fail. Ask the owners in your region.

So if you're running larger injectors (550) a 7psi pulley, EMS and a Comptech SC what happens when you swap out the EMS with the stock ECU?

Also, what happens when your car throws a code? EMS won't pick it up at all, right?

Any shops in the bay area with EMS tuning experience?

HP Freaks quoted ~$1900 for the EMS with the wideband guage. Good or not so good deal?

Andrew Doherty,
Unfortunately I did not buy anything from torqefreaks..... not sure if he would be obliged to help....
I think I'll be posting in the EMS forum.....
Sean will still help you out, he has offered advice to other AEM EMS users on this board even though they didn't buy from Torqufreaks.

Obviously he can only give you so much info before you would need him to come and tune for you, but he will help you with the little things

you could probably get it cheaper elsewhere but its worth paying that little extra for the support torquefreaks will give you plus they had everything to me in less than a week and I live on the other side of the world

Last time I took my car for inspection they attached the probe into the tailpipe. So as long as ECU is running in closed loop im ok, im assuming that the EMS unit works the same way obviously

there is no correlation between closed loop and emmisions....

If you have biggerinjectors and swap back to the stock ecu you will definately run rich.......no good....
If you worry about tehsmog stuff I would advise you to go piggy back.... emanage for example.....

Andrew, thanks... I will try this by myself... I have a feeling it is the Hi idle rpm option not sure yet.....

NYS now has to read OBDII codes so emissions isn't the problem. Being able to see your OBDII computer is what you will face. But you should be able to just swap it in and out with your current set-up.

ok that makes sense about having big injectors w/ stock ECU it will run rich

however, in closed loop, the EMS is still trying to maintain a stoich ratio, isnt?
but the bigger injectors still will downgrade emission results...

well i was planning on going w/ e-manage first but i like the features of the EMS plus its a "plug and play" unit.

going
looks like it will be a long time before I decide

interesting, so no more emissions, where the hell have i been?

so lets say i have bigger injectors and put the stock ECU back in the car, and i may be running rich as hell, but as long as there are no codes stored in the ECU, ill pass, am i reading you correctly?

I think the stock ECU will go crazy after finding out that its fuel correction is not bringing the Af to Stoic... a CEL will be triggered...
For the AEM.... becuase it is fully programable, youcan set you CL Feedback number to anything u want.... exmapl under boost you want it to be between 11.2 - 12.2....

so what are you guys out there doing? Putting the stock ECU back w/ bigger injectors probably wont work on inspection day from I gather. what other alternatives?

My car is not a daily driver but yet I need it to be street legal, or find Mr. Buddy
