No an EMS is not necessary with those. But there are still gains to be had without them and just the EMS.
Not sure that I've seen anyone show documented gains with a larger TB. Again...your engine is a breathing machine...if you push more air in with a larger TB you need a way to get that extra exhaust out. You want balance.
That sounds good......500 isn't really that bad I mean if I buy it brand new I am looking at almost 1500+ Tune so it is a steal anyway......I was just wondering is there any power to gain while being NA.....Because I have seen some really good companies Spoon/Mugen Etc only gain about 10RWHP for $2000 with their retune.....Anyway guys thanks for all the info.....I think I am going to contact Evans Tuning in PA when I am ready. I live in upstate NY but I will drive to get it tuned.....They guy has a great rep......
I'm not sure where you are located, but if you have emissions testing in your state, you will not pass with the AEM. So if you are planning on giving him your stock computer you obviously wont have that for testing.
Other than that issue it is a great deal.

you would have to swap ECUs and then you would need it tuned for your car before before you do any real driving
As someone mentioned you would no longer have your factory ECU, so the car couldn't pass OBD2 inpection if you need that.
I think you should point this local guy my way, I have a spare ECU

Well I spoke to him....He said as long as I can guy it and get it tuned before he is ready to trade in I can keep my stock and get the AEM installed and tuned. This way I will have an ECU to drive to the tuner with.......I am really looking to flatten out my TQ and possibly gained some power throughout the whole RPM range.
I understand about power acroos the powerband and that is exactly what i am looking for so if 18-22RWHP I am going to hop on this asap. I mean if I gain more power over all that is great too. thanks for all the info
I installed and tuned an AEM EMS UEGO ( 1052U ) that I ordered from ^^^www.automotivespeed.com onto my bone stock '01, and gained 22 rwhp PEAK, on top of a solidly increasing delta that started around 3500 and just got larger, opening up to around 20 rwhp at 5700 (new VTEC at the time), and carried it all the way to redline. The AEM EMS was the best thing I did to my S2000. An extremely close 2nd was my ITB's, but they wouldn't even be possible w/o the AEM, so that's why it's #1. Without a doubt, the best modification you can make to an early model year s2k. You will not be dissapointed.
The only downfall the the AEM EMS is the price, and the cost to have it initially tuned. Shops vary, but I was quoted everywhere from $500 to $950 for a complete install and tune. Make sure you take it to a good tuner, as you should not run the car hard w/o having it fine tuned...and it won't make big numbers w/o a good tuner that knows where to "unlock" the BIG power (hint, it's not in the A/F ratios)

Wow Wildcard I just looked at your Dyno Plots. That is exactly the torque line I want to achieve. I know it will not be as extreme as that because the ITB make sure each cylinder get equal air and the length of the ITB make more torque. If the extra power is not found in the A/F where else could it be found? In the timing maybe? This will be my first major mod. The only thing I have right now is a Stage 2 Competition Clutch and Ultra lightweight flywheel. After this I plan on doing Intake/ with a custom 70MM Exhaust. The I will get the AEM installed and tuned. After that some headwork with oversized valves on the exhaust side. I want to do as much mods as I can NA right now that will keep me happy until I can save up the money again for FI. If I get this AEM should I also pick up injectors and a FPR? Will that help the tune? I know rule of thumb is you only want to use 80% of your injectors......
