Yea get some NGK's in there. Good plugs should get rid of some bad driving characteristics.

the autolite's generally work as good as an NGK but wear out fast, they have about 3000 miles on em, they probably have another 1000 before they are toast.

The car drives awesome as it is, just the mileage sucks

The most I've ever seen in my stock 01 was 30mpg on the highway. I don't think you're too far off. The aggressive gearing just isn't MPG friendly.

the rpms' on the highway arent too far off my old civic (built h22 with h2b kit and ITR tranny). That setup made 235hp and got around 29mpg, i never really had time to tune it before it dropped all the valves and killed itself. With the ITR tranny that motor was around 4300 at 80mph.

My goal here is 30mpg, I have a 55 mile round trip to work every day plus misc driving so at 30mpg id be able to go a week on one tank.

The typical method for finding where the engine gets the best mileage dosnt work on this car. Usually i lean it out till it drives funny then add just enough fuel to smooth it out and its good... not with this thing, it never drives funny

The good mileage on the civic can be attributed sole to weight. The S is, by comparison, a fat pig.

That's weird that you couldn't lean it out enough to affect driveability. I suspect there may be some other issues going on in your motor that are attributing to these conditions. This is interesting, keep updating us!

my GSR is a 4dr and weighs ~2800 lbs which is similar to the S, it gets nearly 40mpg!

I havent searched, but has anyone noticed any difference in mileage on the highway with top up vs top down? 98% of my driving is top down
I took it off due to the bucking issue, and a couple people said it would help.. which it did.

I'll put it back on this weekend and will post any differences i see in temps

Welcome Wadzii!!

Yeah the AEM calibrations for the IAT are pretty far off. Was the thread on HT by camuman?

My EMS was tuned by a local guy, MASE. Before I got gears, the car was consistently getting 31mpg on the highway. Something else may be wrong with your car if your AFRs are good. Might want to check the usuals...plugs, low tires, etc.
it was prolly posted by my friend candymanjl on HT. he and i did the experiment with frozen pops ROFL.

man, your def trying to do as much as you can to get the car dialed in. your highway mileage seems a little low for a stock s2k, 25mpg aint bad, oh big question, at what speed are you getting this mileage? i find anytyhing above 70mph really reduces the mileage on this car, also, top up or down?

good luck brother, and by your comment that the base map was not that bad in the aem, i will assume u have an ap1. becuase for an ap2, it blows but its not meant to be driven on, just started, so in that repect, its good.

i honestly wish they would just give you a base map that was a copy of the stock map in the oem ecu. but whatever.

good luck with the car

Top is ALWAYS down, around 75mph, the speed limit on most of the roads i drive on every day is 65-70mph.

how far off is the map for an ap2? it was on the rich side for the ap1 (around 5-10%)

and yeah it had to be your buddy, Popsicles and all.. haha great test btw!

they were the bad flavors anyways!

that could explain your mileage. pop the top up and you will see 1-3mpg increase. slow down to 65 and you will prolly see 30mpg with all that

as for the ap2 map, fuel needed 5-10% in most places, and timing needed to be toned down in most places. i think it had a lot to do with the displacement difference, just a thought hehe. i have to admit though, the car fired right up with the base map, so it was good for that, which is what its for. overall, i guess i complain becuase i wanted the car to tune itself rofl. but it all worked out and i have never regreted going to the aem ems.
