Default Air Conditioner Compressor?!?

Ok so I'm pretty pissed right now. Couple of days ago i was driving A/C full blast like always on my 06 then all of a sudden i'm in 3rd and it starts making a noise like a tire is rubbing. A/C starts blowing cold/humid then it just starts blowing plain hot.

Turn off the A/C engine sounds fine, turn it on sounds like a "GRRRRR" (do it with your mouth haha) over and over and the air just blows hot.

So I take it to honda only to find out warranty expired 3 weeks ago!!! (i'm still at 30k miles)

Called honda thinking they would fix in good faith ( I owned a mazda before and they were really cool about this once) but they told me no. They did however, inform me that the car has extended warranty, but the previous owner would have to transfer it. I don't have his info anymore and he lives 2 states over!!

Honda quoted me $952 just for the part? does this sound right? Maybe they're trying to make some money from me...

Has this happened to anyone else? I'm so desperate right now Honda won't help me Great customer service.....

Any links to parts online would be appreciated, only good that came out of this was meeting a service guy who owns an AP1 and told me if i get the parts he will install for me instead of going through honda

Any help would be greatly appreciated guys, thanks!!!

Look at hondapartscheap dot cohm. I think it's only like $350 or so....could be way worse. Lots of cars are $1000 just for the compressor.

Be careful if you decide to do this yourself. Depending on what happened, sometimes other parts get messed up as well besides just the compressor. Sometimes if you just replace the compressor the crap in the lines will ruin it again within a year. I didn't believe this until I've seen 3 friends have it happen to them.

Next time get the Hondacare extended warranty. My wife's accord was only $800 for 120K/6yr bumper to bumper. It'll pay for itself the first time this happens.

Good luck,
Jason

^Yep, there's a good chance bits of metal are in the whole system. It takes a pro to properly flush and purge the system to avoid future problems with the valves and evaporator core.

I have a 23k mile '05 compressor sitting in my garage that I pulled off of a motor swap for my car. It's in the lower left of the attached pic, with the hoses attached. PM if you're interested.
