Default Airbag SRS Light is on

Ok, I used search... nothing useful. I then manually searched all over for any fixes...

Honda wants $79 to fix it... I know exactly why the light is on. I took the steering wheel off, and then put it back a day or 2 later. Now the wonderful red Airbag light is on. Honda wont just "do a reset" for me. They are requiring the diagnosis...

I'm still under warranty if this is covered...

Anyone have any idea how to fix this?

The SRS plug is a yellow connector with two wires in it that is plugged into the fuse box, unplug it and pull it down. Once you have done that you can begin the process of erasing the memory. NOTE: This will only reset your SRS System if what caused it to trigger has been fixed, Ex: turning the ignition on with any SRS Plugs disconnected, such as pulling your seat out.

1st step in erasing the memory is to turn the ignition off and connect the SCS Service connector to the MES Plug,

2nd Turn Ignition on. SRS indicator light will come on for about 6 seconds then go off.

3rd Disconnect SCS service connector for MES connector within 4 seconds after SRS indicator light goes off. SRS indicator light will come on again.

4th Reconnect SCS service connector the MES connector within 4 seconds after SRS light comes on. SRS indicator light will go off.

5th Disconnect SCS service connector from MES connector within 4 seconds. SRS indicator light will indicate that memory is erased by blinking 2 times.

6th Turn ignition off, and wait 10 seconds. Start vehicle like normal and light should come on and go out like normal. You have reset your SRS light, congrats.

Note:

If you don't have access to the service connector, simply go and buy a toggle switch, hook two wire's to it, and insert the wire's into the MES connector. Instead of having to pull the connector each time, simply use the toggle switch

Racer has given a thorough explanation of how to reset the light - follow his advice.

In addition:
1. The SRS light is not like many other warning lights that can be reset by unplugging the battery. You must follow the procedure described by Race after the fault has been rectified.
2. In my MY 2000 car, removing the driver's seat did not cause an SRS light to be displayed. Perhaps that changed in later cars, and it is certainly the case with cars from MY 2006 and newer.

Furthermore: $79.00 is a lot to pay for a reset, but they do need to do a diagnosis to determine if there is something wrong with the very important supplemental restraint system. They will not just take your word for it.

Lastly: The dealer should not be expected to fix a problem that you caused while working on the car. Some dealers may do it out of goodwill, but yours chose not to. Now you know how to DIY, so feel empowered by the board .

The Helm manual describes this process. Since you are asking, I assume that means you don't have one. Get one.

Also, the manual insists that the SCS service connector must be used, and that jumper wires must not be used. I reset mine using jumper wires and nothing blew up. However, YMMV.

It's the official written-by-Honda service manual for the car. It's an invaluable resource if you work on the car the least little bit.
