Default CEL code P0141

A week or so ago my car threw a CEL P0141 (bad secondary O2 sensor). I'm aware of the details of this issue and the solution to fix it, so it that's not a problem. I'm just wondering if I even bother to take it to the dealer to fix it (my car is still under factory warranty until Dec of this year), or just replace it myself and be done with it. I'm not sure the dealer will cover it due to my aftermarket header and exhaust.

Has anyone had the same experience? I really don't feel like wasting my time getting the 3rd degree from the stupid service department if they're not going to cover it under warranty. Has anyone had any experience with this kind of thing? Should this be covered under warranty anyway? Thoughts? The help is appreciated.

I'm willing to bet that they'll give you a hell of a time because of the header and catback considering the secondary o2 sensor is behind all of that wonderful free flowing mods you got....

Just do it yourself and call it good. No sense in opening up a can of worms at the dealer.

Yeah, you guys have gone through the same thought process as me. I kinda figured they'd blame it on the exhaust parts, so why the hell even waste my time. I can get one for like $120 from some of these online places, so that sounds like a plan.

PS - Service departments/dungeons SUCK!

The CAT (a $500+ part) which often has a loose element that slides back to destroy the O2 sensor has a 8/80 warranty, and the sensor a 3/36 (3/50 in California). If you can find the time it is probably worth it to see about a warranty fix and if declined call AHM with the threat of going to the EPA regarding CAT failure. There is a thread regarding the many CAT failures of this type.
