Any thoughts on the original intention of the internal baffle with the stock air box?

This may be a bit simplistic, but rather than making the induction tube connect directly to the air box opening

Well, to be honest the chamber is pretty rudimentary. Port Chamber? Front inlet chamber or Filter housing. I'm not sure what we are addressing. Don't meant to be ignorant. When you say ported chamber I presume that your talking about the Front Inlet Chamber.

My understanding is that it would provide an area of negative pressure in the air flow to allow water to seperate from the incomming air. Not that a little water would hurt. In-fact we used to us water/alcohol injection on V-8s to cool the incomming air flow which produced more power and believe it or not kept the engine cleaner. I've actually been looking for a water injection system. Holley used to make one but I can't find it anymore. I suppose also that it would provide a little tumble effect. This would be more efficient with the engine pulse and keep a constant smooth airflow during exhaust and intake strokes. Probally aid in a stronger vacuum effect also during intake cycle. What do you think?

I'm surprised that there isn't some manufacturer making a "bolt-on" (cut out) duct for the hood. It should be fairly simple to add a duct right above where the stock CAI starts, and some rubber to seal it. Of course, I'd prefer to do away with the whole stock airbox and have a duct on the drivers side (US spec). The filter could fit inbetween the rad overfill and the stock airbox just above the upper rad hose. This would shorten the air travel tremendously as well as provide cold air, but it may be dangerous on rainy days.

As I recall there is a port in the lower part of the main chamber that apparently leads to a smaller chamber that wraps underneath the input tube.

It appears to me that Honda really put some investment into the box. I bet the size of the openings and volume of the chambers are deliberately chosen, and it is obviously much more expensive to manufacture than a simple holder for the filter.

I do not have the expertise to understand why it is the way it is, but it certainly looks like a tuned chamber to influence the waves in the box.

Maybe we could get some an educated evaluation here..

My suggestion of a straight line from the ambient air... air+scoop+filter+intake tube+intake came more from just observation than anything technical, I'm not nearly so in-depth with this sort of thing. I just thought the shortest, straightest line from the cool outside air to the intake would make sense.
