Default Airbox Resonating Chamber

I'm curious whether anyone has tried blocking off the resonating chamber of the stock airbox to see what kind of sound you'd get. I imagine the honda engineers built the resonator in to quiet the intake noise. I'm wondering whether blocking it might make it sound like an open induction system like the AEM to give the car a more aggressive sound. Anyone try it or know of any problems it might cause?

yeah this has been talked about. people usually block it off when they gut their airboxes and stuff.

I did it by taping a business card over the hole. Sounded a little meaner. Unblocked it after a week because I thought I lost some power (may be true, may not be true).

I've read on this site that, when you purchase the spoon filter, they recommend that you gut the airbox and block the resonator chamber. I worked on mine a little over a week ago and I enjoy it. My07 definitely sounds meaner, and there is an improvement in throttle response. No real gain or loss in HP though.

It basically just sounds meaner 3k+ especially during hard acceleration...

Mind you I'm running a stock exhaust system so
the louder intake noise is more noticeable...

I insulated the airbox on MY01 and in doing so closed off the resonator chamber. Because more air is forced into the TB there seems to be better throttle response, but a bit less sound. I think I would rather have less sound coupled with less heat soak.

Has anyone just cut it off?
Maybe leave it open or fiberglass it shut?

I gutted my airbox some time ago too. I cut the wall out and used a piece of it to cover the rear section of the airbox. A little jb weld on the inside and it's blocked off.

thats a good idea.
Anyone know if that increases the risk of water induction with spoon duct?

Yea dont go in water that covers your front bumper. I just stuffed a rag into the hole for the resonator. Took about 10 seconds to block it off and it hasn't gone anywhere in the last year..

Yes there have been people here that cut off the resonator completely, but it leaves the air box looking thrashed and unfinished. I my self removed the air dam, the air guide elbow on the lid, blocked off the resonator, installed an AUT cooling plate with a custom air guide panel for a ram air, and I noticed a nice amount of throttle response gain. Especially at speeds over 60 MPH. I also have eliminated the heat soak bog down issue in warmer weather and I have not had any problems in the rain or after washing the car!
