Animal home in air box
I left my car in storage for several years and some animals (rats? Gross...) took up residence in my engine bay. They ate all my wires and made everything super gross, so after about $2000 worth of work the car is up and running again.
There is some detritus in my engine box, specifically in the hole/slot at the back right. In the image (borrowed from another post) it's indicated by the short red arrow. Where does this hole lead? How do I get in that space? How can I clean it out?
(this image is just an example, I haven't removed the air box on my s2000)

That hole leads to a resonator chamber. To the large box to right of airbox. It the only hole in.
So you could repeatedly stick a hose up there, and let gravity flow the water, and some really gross stuff, spill out until water comes out clean.
Remove entire airbox from car first of course...

Detritus?! Word of the day!
Remove the air box and pressure wash it inside and out. Typical "hand spray" car wash will do it.
Raccoons living in my boat one summer ate the cover off my steering wheel, wiring, and parts of the radio. Raccoon scat can be very dangerous for infection as can rodent scat. Be careful. I pressure washed the boat inside.
